Guide 01 · Cloud storage

A home for your website files

Cloud object storage gives files a place to live. A bucket groups those files so an application or browser can request them.

What is an object?

An object contains data, such as an HTML page or an image, together with information about that data. Its key identifies it inside a bucket.

For this website, index.html is one object. The page you are reading has the key guides/storage/index.html.

What is a bucket?

A bucket is a container for objects. When a static website is stored in a bucket, the HTML, CSS, and JavaScript files keep their paths so links can work.

Keep the paths correct

A page in a deeper folder must use the correct link to shared files. This page uses ../../assets/style.css to load the same stylesheet as the homepage.

Think about access

Only files intended for visitors should be public. Passwords, private keys, and personal records do not belong in a public website folder.

Simple example: A public course page can contain notes and diagrams. The student's private login details should stay separate.
